Cuttack: Breaking societal stereotypes and in a bid to be financially independent, transgender organisations set up stalls at the annual extravaganza of Bali Jatra.
There are two stalls set-up by the transgenders this year. The first is from Bahuchara Mata TG Group and second by Maa Mangala Kinnar group. Both of the transgender or kinnar organizations are based out of the silver city.
The stall by Bahuchara Mata TG Group is selling handmade items ranging from crocheted woollen and decorative items to mats and rugs. Speaking to OMMCOM NEWS, Sheetal Kinnar expressed her utmost happiness with the chance to be a part of the mainstream society. She said, “We have been setting up our stall at the Bali Jatra for last 5-6 years and have always put on sale only handmade items. While our stall always had a great sale at every outing in past years, but the love we are receiving this year is humbling. Supreme Court’s landmark judgment has made this possible.”
The other stall of Maa Mangala Kinnar groups housed various kinds of household decorative items.
Both the kiosks had a huge number of buyers waiting to make the purchase of their favourite product.
World’s largest open-air trade and cultural fair- Bali Jatra began on November 12 on the auspicious occasion of Kartika Purnima and has been receiving footfalls in thousands every day.
