Bhubaneswar: There is a long rush in the Regional Transport Offices across Odisha with fresh and renewal applications piling up. Thanks to the new Motor Vehicle Act which came into force recently, vehicle owners are becoming serious about possession of relevant documents mandatory for driving.
In view of the rush and long queues at RTOs, Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has instructed the Transport Department officials to make necessary arrangements to accommodate the overcrowding.
Sources said, five new centres will be opened at Bhubaneswar and Khurda for applying for the driving license. The Department has instructed RTOs to facilitate separate queues for senior citizens at the RTO offices.
In a letter to All Regional Transport Officers in Odisha, Panda directed RTOs to facilitate speedy service to the general public.
“Make necessary arrangements to enhance more number of slots for both DL and LL tests, install extra computers for LL test and also allow the applicant to appear test for LL and DL in the vacant slot where the allotted applicant is absent,” the letter stated.
The RTOs have also been asked to open office in all Government holidays for the above purpose to facilitate the public. “Any deviation to this effect shall be seriously viewed,” the letter read.
