Paradip: Five fishermen were rescued while four others have gone missing after their trawler hit the wreckage of the sunken ship ‘Black Rose’ off Paradip coast on Monday.
Reportedly, nine fishermen were returning to the shore after fishing in the deep sea at around 11 am today when their trawler Maa-Mini hit the wreckage of ‘Black Rose’ which had sunk in 2009.
The trawler also drowned in the sea after the mishap. Five among the nine fishermen were rescued by fellow fishermen on nearby vessels while a search operation is still underway to locate four others.
Members of Odisha Marine Fish Producers’ Association (OMFPA) have alleged that such mishaps have become a regular affair as the wreckage has not been removed.
The association has repeatedly complained to the authorities of Paradip Port Trust (PPT) but to no avail. It has demanded that the authorities should take immediate action in this regard.
