Balasore: A truck carrying beef was seized by Singla police near Putura Chowk on the Basta-Baliapal road in Balasore. The truck contained an estimated five tons of beef.
According to reports, the truck was heading towards West Bengal from the Bhadrak area when Bajrang Dal workers blocked the road near Gandhi Chowk under Basta police station on National Highway No. 16. They attempted to stop it. However, the truck was unable to enter the highway and attempted to take a detour through Baliapal road.
While traveling at high speed, the truck hit a tree near Putura Chowk due to dense fog and came to a halt. The driver and helper abandoned the truck and fled the scene. Upon receiving the information, Singla police arrived at the spot, seized the truck, and brought it to the police station.
Locals alleged that hundreds of cattle and beef trucks are smuggled to West Bengal through the highway daily. Locals and Bajrang Dal workers have demanded swift action against those involved.
Radhakrushna Behera, Putura GP sarpanch, stated, “We are shocked to see a huge amount of beef being transported to West Bengal. We demand a complete ban on cow slaughter.”
