Truck Carrying ‘Beef’ Set On Fire In Ganjam

**Ganjam:** A mob on Sunday set a truck full of meat on fire after it met with an accident and overturned at Randa under Golanthara police limits here in Ganjam suspecting that it carried beef.

According to reports, the container truck going towards Andhra Pradesh from West Bengal overturned on NH-16 near Randha under Golanthara police limits in the wee hours today.

Following this, locals spotted red fluid oozing out of container and soon Bajrang Dal and Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists rushed to the spot and ransacked the truck suspecting beef was being transported.

As tension ran high at the spot for quite some time, driver and other staff of the vehicle fled from the site.

On being informed, fire tenders were pressed into the service which took an hour to douse the flames.

Police also intervened in the matter and pacified the irate locals.

“The mob suspected that the truck transported beef and set on fire. We are investigating whether the truck was carrying beef or not,” said Sadar SDPO Ashok Mohanty.
