Bhawanipatna: A tusker that accidentally fell into an abandoned open well at Jamapada village under Narla range in Kalahandi Forest Division was later rescued by the forest team after an hour-long operation.

The elephant fell into the abandoned 5-foot deep well in the night while it strayed into the village area in search of food.

On being informed, forest officials began rescue operations after the forest department mobilised their workforce and machines. An excavator was used to dig the soil to create a pathway for the animal to walk out of the well.

Forest officials believed that the jumbo was separated from its herd.

After being rescued, the animal went into the nearby forest.
