Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a rogue tusker gored an elderly woman to death in Bardhana village under Jyotipur Beat area under Champua range in Keonjhar district.
The deceased has been identified as Sarada Khillar.
According to reports, a 30-member elephant herd wreaked havoc in the Jyotipur beat area, damaging over seven houses. The elephant herd, which strayed into the area on Wednesday night, created panic among locals in Bardhana, Ankurdi, Niundi, Khuntapada, and Tangarapada villages. The elephant’s rampage has left locals in a state of terror, with people fearing for their safety.
The rogue tusker is still roaming in the Niundi forest area, leaving residents on edge. The district administration is working to mitigate the situation and prevent further incidents.
Upon being informed about Saradha’s death, Forest department officials rescued the injured woman and rushed her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries en route.
