Jajpur: A special POCSO court in Jajpur sentenced a tutor to 20 years in prison for raping two minor students.
Judge Abhijit Palai announced the verdict after considering the statements of 16 witnesses. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 1.5 lakh on the convict.
The incidents reportedly took place in 2020 at a school under Panikoili police limits in Jajpur district. The accused, who provided private tution, detained the two students separately on different occasions.
Following these incidents, the victims’ families filed complaints at the Panikoili police station. The accused was arrested and charged under Section 376(AB) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. The court announced a 20-year prison term in today’s hearing.
Judge Palai ordered the accused to pay Rs. 7 lakh in compensation to the victims, with an additional 18-month prison term if unpaid.
“The judge delivered the sentence based on the statements of 16 witnesses, sentencing the accused to 20 years of imprisonment,” stated Rajeev Mohanty, special prosecutor.
