**Bhubaneswar**: The Capital police station in Bhubaneswar and CDA police station in Cuttack will soon have an examination cell with audio and video recording facilities, where the witnesses and the accused will be interrogated, informed YB Khurania, Commissioner, Twin City.
“The room will also have a facility of an observation compartment where the relatives of the accused and the lawyers can direcly watch the interrogation process. This will serve two main purposes. Firstly, there will be transparency in the interrogation process and secondly, the senior cops and the court can refer to the audio visual recordings of the witnesses in future.”
This cell is built as a part of the police modernization programme and will be replicated in other police stations in future.
The initial set-up and the execution of the facilities in both the police stations will be started in two months, informed the Commissioner.
The accused, who confesses a crime in police custody often denies it in court claiming that he was pressurized to do so by the police. Similarly, the accused allege that they are meted out torture to confess a particular crime. So, this step is hailed as a welcome step by the police and public alike, as it would bring transparency in the mode of working by the police.
