Bargarh: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a daytime burglary at the residence of Chanchal Kumar Meher under Padampur police station in Bargarh district, on Monday.
The suspects, identified as Jaga Meher (19) and a juvenile, were apprehended following a swift investigation.
According to police, a case was registered at Padampur Police Station under Case No. 331 dated November 9, 2025, under Sections 331, 305, and 3(5) BNS. The complaint stated that Chanchal Kumar Meher and his family had gone on a visit to the Nrusinghanath Temple near Paikmal on November 9. During their absence, burglars broke into their house and looted gold and Rs 40,000 in cash.
Acting on credible intelligence, Padampur police learned that the suspects were planning to flee Odisha for Tamil Nadu via Barapali railway station. The police team intercepted and apprehended the two suspects near Barapali town.
Recovered items include 390 grams of gold valued at approximately Rs 35 lakh, Rs 30,000 in cash, and the motorcycle used by the accused.
“One of the accused is related to the victim, and further investigations are underway to identify any accomplices and recover any other stolen property,” said Padampur SDPO Pandab Sabar while briefing the media.
The arrests highlight the swift action taken by Padampur police in preventing the suspects from escaping and recovering the stolen items.
