Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police on Monday arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a youth Anjan Pradhan at Chintamaniswar under Laxmisagar police station during the wee hours on Saturday.
The arrested persons have been identified as main accused Kanha Pradhan alias Pinku and his girlfriend Niharika Das.
They were arrested from Salia Sahi and have been forwarded to court.
“On the intervening night of 15-16 March Laxmisagar police received information that at around 1.45 some people had assaulted a youth resulting in serious injury. Immediately police rescued the injured from the spot near Chintamaniswar Basti and rushed him to Capital Hospital. However, due to excessive bleeding, he died,” informed Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh speaking to reporters.
Singh said that the deceased was identified as Anjan Behera (25) and he was working with a catering agency.
“A special team was formed to nab the accused persons. The main accused persons Kanha Pradhan alias Pinku and Niharika Das have been arrested from Salia Sahi,” the DCP said.
According to the police, Anjan Behera and his friend Gautam Sahoo were returning from event management work in a marriage function at Jatni at around 1.45 AM on Saturday. On the way in front of Hotel Swagatam, they were busy in gossiping with other friends.
At that time the accused Kanha Pradhan with his girlfriend and four others reached near Gautam and Anjan. Due to previous enmity, there was a heated exchange of words among them and it turned worse.
Suddenly accused Pinku alias Kanha Pradhan brought one sword from his motorcycle and attacked Anjan Behera on his backside inflicting a heavy blow leading to severe bleeding injury on his person and resulting in his death at Capital Hospital while undergoing treatment.
