Cuttack: A joint team of Drug Control officers and Excise officials arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the illegal cough syrup trade. The arrests were made during a raid at a medicine farm in Sumandi village under Cuttack Sadar police limits late Wednesday night.
According to reports, the farm’s owner, Jayiram Sahoo (42) and his associate, Prafulla Kumar Jena (49), were arrested for allegedly buying, selling, and storing illegal drugs.
During the raid, a large amount of cough syrup and 32 different types of illegal drugs were found.
Meanwhile, the Excise department sealed the medicine farm and initiated a thorough investigation into the illicit cough syrup trade. As part of the probe, officials are examining records, questioning staff, and analyzing seized materials to unravel the extent of the illegal operations.
Notably, the Excise Department’s raid came after receiving complaints about the illegal sale of drugs and cough syrup.
