Sambalpur: Two accused were arrested by police in connection with the robbery of jewellery shop- Payal Jewellers at Gobindatulla under Dhanupalli police limits in Sambalpur.
The accused have been identified as Sanjay Sahu (45) and Tikeswar Sahu (51). Sanjay is a resident of Samastipur in Bihar while Tikeswar belongs to Saintala area in Bolangiri district, Sambalpur SP said at a press meet.
Police have recovered three guns, seven ammunition, twp mobile phones, two motorcycles and Rs 9000 cash from their possession.
The two accused are members of a dacoity gang which is involved in eight cases- five in Sambalpur and three in Bolangir, SP MK Bhamoo said.
Sanjay is the mastermind of the gang, he added.
The SP further said that total eight members are there in the gang. “We have arrested two of them. Others will be arrested soon, ” the SP added.
“We will move court seeking remand of the duo for further investigation,” the SP said.
Notably, six members of the gang shot a jeweller at his shop Payal Jeweller at Gobindatulla on the outskirts of Sambalpur town recently.
The owner of the shop, Sujit Swarnakar sustained bullet injuries and was admitted to VIMSAR, Burla.
The robbers posing as customers entered the shop and asked for a gold chain. While Sujit Swarnakar was showing them a chain, one of the robbers pulled out a pistol and shot at him.
