Bhubaneswar: Two convicted prisoners lodged at Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar failed to return after being released on parole.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities have filed a complaint with Laxmisagar police station, triggering a manhunt for the duo.

According to reports, both inmates were granted leave as per existing parole provisions, but did not return after the expiry of the sanctioned period. The absconding convicts are Susil Digal, who is serving a life sentence in a murder case, and Ranjit Nayak, who is convicted in a rape case and sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Digal had previously returned to jail after multiple furlough leaves. However, he failed to report back after going on leave in 2024. Despite over a year passing since the incident, he hasn’t returned to jail, and authorities have no information about his whereabouts.

On the other hand, Nayak had gone on furlough leave on October 1 and was expected to return by the end of the month. However, he hasn’t returned for over two months, prompting another complaint to be filed with the Laxmisagar police station.
