Sonepur: In a tragic incident, two cousin brothers were killed in a shootout incident at Chulimala village under Binika police limits in Odisha’s Subarnapur district on Tuesday.
According to reports, the deceased have been identified as Manoj Jhankar (30) and Seshadeva Jhankar (28). Manoj was serving as a constable in the district police force.
The incident is said to be a fall-out of a quarrel between the two cousins. They were in a nearby field when the villagers heard a loud noise. When the locals rushed to the field to ascertain the source of the noise, they found Manoj and Seshadeva lying in a pool of blood. They were rushed to the Binika Community Health Center where the doctors declared the youths brought dead.
The local police are investigating the matter to determine the cause and circumstances that led to the tragic event.
However, according to local villagers, another youth from Makharadev drank alcohol with the two brothers before the incident. The police are investigating who the third person is. Subarnapur SP Yash Pratap Shrimal has reached the spot with a police team.
A pistol was recovered from the spot, while the bodies have been seized and sent for post-mortem. On Tuesday night, IG Himanshu Lal reached the spot and took stock of the situation. A gloom has descended on Chulimala village after this incident.
