Two Critical In By-Election Related Violence In Balasore

Balasore: Two persons were critically injured in group clashes related to the upcoming by-election in Balasore Assembly constituency.

Last night, workers of one party barged into a hotel in Chandipur claiming that members of another contesting party were staying at the said hotel; which is against Model Code of Conduct. The workers got into a scuffle which turned more violent, said sources. Resultantly, panchayat samity member Lokanath Dalei and another unidentified individual were critically injured.

They were first taken to Balasore DHH and then transferred to SCB Medical College & Hospital as their condition worsened.

Late last night two platoons of police force have also been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, today morning Chandipur Police detained five people in this connection. A probe is underway.

Balasore along with Tirtol assembly constituency goes into by-election tomorrow.
