Bhubaneswar: The Cyber Crime division of Commissionerate of Police have busted a gang of fraudsters with the arrest of two persons on Sunday. The accused identified as Kamal Jaiswal and Ananda Kumar Bhagat belong to Girdih district in Jharkhand.
The duo allegedly looted Rs 30,064 from the account of a Civil Engineer by fraudulent means. As per the complainant, who works at Paradeep, he received a message on January 31 pertaining to closure of his bank account.
The message read, ‘if you do not update your KYC, your account will be closed.’ The unsuspecting person clicked on a link provided in the message to update his KYC. However, minutes later, the man realised that the aforementioned amount was deducted from his account.
The person in question reported the matter to Commissionerate Police which initiated an investigation and nabbed the accused. Five mobile phones, 3 SIM cards, two bank passbooks, two cheque books, Aadhar card, PAN card, and a debit card were seized from their possession.
According to police, the duo have been booked in 55 cases in the past and are professional cyber frauds. The cyber crime division is investigating further into the case.
