Bhubaneswar: Two Dalit men were allegedly subjected to severe physical and mental abuse in Kharigumma village under Dharakote block in Ganjam district.
According to reports, the victims were travelling from Haripur to Singipur with three cows to give them as dowry for their daughter’s marriage when they were stopped by some people at Kharigumma.
The accused demanded money, claiming they were cow smugglers. When the victims refused to pay, they were brutally beaten and heads partially tonsured.
Thereafter, the victims were allegedly forced to crawl on their knees for nearly two kilometres on village roads from Kharigumma to Jahada, fed grass, and made to drink drain water.
Both victims managed to escape and file a written complaint at the Dharakote police station. Dharakote police have admitted them to the hospital for treatment and are investigating the incident
