Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a minor boy, died in separate drowning incidents reported from Sundargarh and Balasore districts on Sunday.

The first incident occurred at Pradhanpali Ghat on the Koel River under Kuarmunda police station in Sundargarh district. The deceased was identified as Anasi Behera, daughter of Suresh Behera, a resident of Chainpur village.

According to sources, Anasi had gone to the river for fishing in the evening when she reportedly slipped and fell into the water. After she failed to return home, her family launched a search. Her body was later found floating in the river, following which local police were informed.

Kuarmunda police personnel reached the spot and have initiated an investigation into the incident.

In a separate incident, a two-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Kalamanga village under Soro block in Balasore district. The deceased has been identified as Anshuman Behera, son of Srikant Behera.

According to reports, the child was playing near the pond behind his house when he accidentally fell into the water. After a frantic search, his family members rescued him from the pond and rushed him to the Soro Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him brought dead.

Upon receiving the information, Soro police reached the site, conducted a post-mortem, and handed over the body to the family. A case has been registered under Section 62/25 and further investigation is underway.

Both incidents have left the local communities in mourning.
