Bhubaneswar: The Shaeed Nagar police on Monday arrested two former students of Utkal University for their alleged involvement in the ruckus during a state-level seminar at PG Council Hall of the university on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Manas Sahu and Sanjay Mallick.
According to reports, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and chief guest at the seminar, Surajit Majumdar was delivering his speech at the seminar on India’s Constitution yesterday, a group of students and former students of the university created a ruckus and shouted slogans to stop the event immediately.
The students also hurled abuses and attacked a professor of the varsity as well as the convener of Citizen Forum. The situation soon went out of control and the irate students had a verbal duel with the convener of Citizen Forum Pradeepta Nayak and lecturer Surendra Jena.
Two persons suffered injuries in the attack following which the opposing groups filed two separate complaints at Saheed Nagar police station.
Meanwhile, tension continued to prevail at Vani Vihar and the police are keeping an eye on the situation.
