**Khurda**: There is no let up in the farmer suicide cases in Odisha as two more farmers ended their lives in Khurda and Balasore districts on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Laxmidhar Sethi of Asarla village under Bolagarh block in Khurdha consumed poison allegedly due to debt burden.
“We have recorded statements of locals and family members of the deceased farmer to know the exact cause of death. We will soon submit the report to the collector,” said local Tehsildar Nikarika Nayak.
Similarly, Sukura Mallik, a farmer of Mulukaida village under Soro block of Balasore district attempted to end his life allegedly over debt burden.
Mallik breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Balasore hospital.
According to reports, the 70-year-old Mallik had taken a loan of Rs 18000 from a self-help group (SHG). He used up the money in the treatment of his wife suffering from cancer.
Mallik had to pay Rs 500 as interest every month for the loan amount. However, failing to meet the amount, he took the extreme step of ending life by consuming poison.
