Bhubaneswar: Two government officials were convicted by the vigilance court in two separate corruption cases in Cuttack and Ganjam districts on Tuesday.
Ranjan Jena, former Welfare Extension Officer of Daringbadi Block in Kandhamal, currently posted in the same position in Nimapada, Puri, was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under various sections of the PC Act for accepting a bribe of Rs. 6,000 from a complainant to pass electric bills for Kirikuti UG High School.
A special Vigilance court in Phulbani found him guilty and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also ordered Jena to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000. Furthermore, the convict, Ranjan Jena, was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for Jena’s dismissal from service.
In a separate case, R. Jaga Rao Reddy, former DLR Peon, OMVD Check gate at Balarampur, Ganjam (disengaged from service), and his spouse, R. Urvasi, were convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur, for possessing disproportionate assets. They were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years and pay a fine of Rs. 25,000.
