Bhubaneswar: Two youths have been apprehended in connection with the molestation of three sisters near a bus stand in Kanthapur area under Puri Sadar police limits on Monday evening and they will be produced in a court, according to Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra.
According to Mishra, the sisters were returning from Jagannath temple after having the darshan of the sibling deities when the incident occurred. Victims’ father had filed a complaint in this regard.
“Two youths have been apprehended in connection with the incident, while others involved are still at large. They will be nabbed soon,” he said.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when the three sisters visited a temple approximately 2.5 km from their residence for darshan. As they were returning home, a group of six men, reportedly under the influence of liquor near the bus stand, began misbehaving with them, taking advantage of the darkness.
The accused allegedly made obscene comments, pulled one of the sisters’ dupattas, snatched their mobile phones, and stole a purse containing cash.
The victims, frightened and distressed, managed to escape and informed their family members about the incident. The family then lodged a complaint with the local police, leading to the arrest of two accused so far. Police are working to apprehend the remaining accused and ensure justice for the victims.
