Balangir: In a significant crackdown on counterfeit currency circulation, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two individuals from a village near Titilagarh town in Balangir district and seized fake currency notes with a total face value of ₹49,000.

The accused have been identified as Md Sabir, a resident of Titilagarh, and Netra Rout from Sagadaghat village.

The duo was apprehended during a joint raid conducted by the Bhubaneswar STF and Titilagarh police near Siker village, acting under the directive of the Superintendent of Police.

“Following the SP’s directive, Bhubaneswar STF and Titilagarh police conducted a raid near Siker and apprehended two persons — Md Sabir and Netra Rout. We seized counterfeit currency with a face value of ₹49,000 from their possession. A case has been registered, and both will be forwarded to court. Efforts are ongoing to determine whether others are involved in this racket. We will take further action based on the investigation,”  informed Jashobant Narayan Pradhani, SDPO of Titilagarh speaking to reporters.

Authorities have launched a wider investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be linked to the counterfeit currency network.
