Sundargarh: A woman and her daughter, who were rescued by Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete on Saturday, revealed during counselling on Sunday that they were repeatedly ‘raped’ by one Mithun, the bother-in-law of the woman.
While the mother spoke at length about their miseries during the counselling session held at the Astha Gruha, the daughter is yet to come out of her trauma. The mother alleged that her brother-in-law assaulted them sexually after her husband’s death.
According to Astha Gruha secretary Snehalata Patel, the duo said that they are natives of a Jharkhand village. Following the death of the lady’s husband, the woman lived with her three daughters and a son. However, her brother-in-law tortured her and her daughters.
“The woman’s brother-in-law had been raping the woman and her daughter since the death of her husband,” revealed Astha Gruha Secretary Snehalata Patel.
The woman alleged that the accused raped them and inflicted mental and physical torture on them. Unable to bear the torture any longer, the mother-daughter duo fled the village and reached Odisha.
After they were rescued by Kusum Tete, the two are being provided with proper treatment and a probe has also been launched in this regard.
It is worth mentioning here that two women, aged about 45 and 27, were seen walking along College Road in Sundargarh with no clothes on. Tete, who was going to participate in a demonstration, spotted them and provided shawls kept in her car.
On being informed, a police team and a medical team reached the spot. They were subsequently taken to ‘Astha Gruha’, a facility meant for mentally ill people.
