Cuttack: Fire Services personnel recovered the body of a man from the Jagatpur-Kendrapara canal in Cuttack on Wednesday morning. He had jumped into the Mahanadi River Tuesday night.
According to reports, two persons jumped into the Mahanadi River on Tuesday. One of them jumped from the Madhusudan Setu late last night, while another person jumped into the river from Jobra Bridge on Tuesday morning.
The victim who jumped into the river from Jobra bridge has been identified as Anup Agrawal (51), a resident of Nayasadak area in Cuttack. Police had earlier seized his scooter and sandals from the bridge.
Fire Services personnel recovered the body of Agarwal from the Jagatpur-Kendrapara canal this morning, search operation is on to trace the second victim.
In the other case, the body of the person who had jumped into the River from the Jobra bridge has been recovered from the Cuttak Jagatpur Kendrapara canal. The second person has been identified as Mrutyunjay Manik, a resident of the Mancheswar area of Bhubaneswar.
Upon being alerted by locals, Fire Services and ODRAF teams arrived at the scene to commence a search operation. The swollen state of Mahanadi River, however, presented difficulties for the rescue efforts.
