Nayagarh: Two precious lives were lost on Tuesday when tree branches fell on them in two separate incidents in Nayagarh district following nor’wester.
While one incident took place near Anlapata on the Khandapara-Khalisahi road, the other incident took place near Daspalla Kishore Chandra High School under Gania police limits.
In the first incident, a branch of a roadside jamun tree came crashing on a moving auto-rickshaw following nor’wester near Anlapata on Khandapara-Khalisahi road which was carrying a family of Harijan Sahi in Kiajhari panchayat of Nayagarh district.
The auto-rickshaw was mangled under the weight of the huge branch.
A 28-year-old woman Rashmita Nayak was killed and three other women sustained critical injuries in the incident.
Locals rescued the occupants of the auto-rickshaw and shifted them to the government hospital at Khandapara where doctors declared Rashmita dead.
The critically injured three women have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital here.
Similarly, in the second incident, an icecream seller Naba Khatua (55) of Madhaberani village under Khandpara police limits was returning home after doing business and had taken shelter under a mango tree following the nor’wester near Kishore Chandra Government High School under Gania police. A massive branch of the mango tree came crashing down on him under the impact of the nor’wester.
He was rushed to the Community Health Centre at Gania after he was sighted by locals. He had a severe injury on his head and was declared dead by the doctors at the CHC.
