Bhawanipatna: In Kalahandi district, a landslide caused by incessant rain claimed the lives of two persons at Durka Dangari mound near Alabhata village on Sunday.
Rajkumari Naik, 30, and Mukunda Parabhoi, 55, both residents of the village of Alabhata, were identified as the deceased.
A source claimed that Mukunda and Rajkumari make a meagre living at the mound by smashing stones. They had visited Durka Dangari the day before.
As they were preparing to head back home, it abruptly began to rain. They quickly sought refuge to avoid getting wet.
A local villager reported, “A big stone fell on both of them and the duo died right there.” Fire personnel from Jaipatna arrived at the scene after being notified. The two bodies, however, had previously been found by some residents.
Mukunda and Rajkumari’s bodies were ferried to a local hospital for a post-mortem. Jaipatna police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
