Two Killed In Lightning Strikes In Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in the Rairangpur block of Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Rakhi Mahanta (35), wife of Dilip Kumar Mahanta of Rakhanisahi village and Manoj Mahanta (45) of Neuti village.

According to reports, Rakhi was harvesting paddy in her field when she was struck by lightning. Locals rushed her to the Rairangpur Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared her brought dead.

Following the incident, Rairangpur Town Police reached the spot, seized the body, and registered a case of unnatural death. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

In a separate incident, Manoj Mahanta was struck by lightning while working in his farmland. He was immediately taken to Rairangpur CHC by family members, but was declared dead on arrival. Bahalda Police registered a case and took necessary formalities before handing over the body to the family after autopsy.
