Mayurbhanj: In a tragic incident, two persons died after a truck rammed into a scooter on NH-18 near Palabani bypass of Baripada town, Mayurbhanj district on Monday.
According to reports, the cargo truck driver lost control of the speeding vehicle while descending from the overbridge at midnight, running over the scooter driver and pillion coming from the wrong side.
Both the rider and pillion of the scooter died on the spot after being hit by the truck. Deceased persons are yet to be identified.
Following the accident, the movement of vehicles on the national highway was halted for some time.
Police officials reached the accident spot at around 1 pm and initiated an investigation into the matter after recovering the bodies.
According to sources, the bypass cross-section has become an accident hotspot due to a foreign liquor shop located on the roadside. People are accessing the shop by coming from the wrong direction on the highway, leading to frequent accidents.
