Berhampur: Two persons were murdered over alleged political rivalry at Chasanimakhandi village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district on Saturday night.
The deceased identified as Sudhir Patra and Sudarsan Suara of Palajhadi village are said to be members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
They had reportedly gone to attend a meeting that was organised between the winner and the defeated groups in the recently concluded panchayat elections. They were allegedly attacked when they were returning home.
Their bodies were first found by a tractor driver at around 8 pm yesterday. After the driver informed the villagers, they were first rushed to Digapahandi Hospital, where the doctor declared Sudarshan dead.
Saroj succumbed to injuries and breathed his last while being shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The exact reason behind the attack is still unclear. Meanwhile, police have started a probe into the incident.
