Bhubaneswar: Two persons died and two others fighting for life after being overcome by fumes while opening a septic tank’s centring structure in Keshaibahal village in Sambalpur district on Tuesday.
The incident happened when four persons entered a newly constructed septic tank to remove the centring structure. The victims, identified as Sushil Naik and Bhikari Charan Behera, both from Keshaibahal, experienced difficulties in taking breath due to suffocation. Despite rescue efforts, they succumbed to the fumes.
The other two men, who also suffered severe breathing difficulties, were pulled out and rushed to Kuchinda Hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.
The incident has sparked concern over safety protocols for workers involved in such hazardous tasks. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
