Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two labourers died from asphyxiation while working inside an under-construction septic tank at Nuahata Saktinagar Colony, under Banarpal police limits in Angul district, on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Raghu Hansda and Medha Nag, both residents of Redham village under Bahalda police limits in Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, Raghu and Medha, who were working on the construction of a building at Saktinagar Colony, had entered the septic tank for some tasks. When they did not emerge from the tank after nearly two hours, the house owner and other labourers became concerned and checked the septic tank, where they found both workers unconscious.

The house owner immediately alerted the Fire Service, who broke open the septic tank using an earthmoving machine to rescue the trapped labourers. Unfortunately, by the time Raghu and Medha were rescued, both were already dead.

The Banarpal police have seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. An investigation into the incident is underway.
