Koraput: Two active Maoist cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Odisha police here on Sunday. DGP Abhay welcomed the duo to the mainstream and appealed others who are still into left wing extremism to shun violence and join civil society.
Among the surrendered Maoists, one held the rank of an Area Commander and had a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. The other LWE cadre was a member of CPI (Maoist). They have been identified as Deba Padiami alias Gangi and Gita Padiami alias Rajita, both belonging to Guma area committee.
“Koraput police have done a commendable job in facilitating Maoist surrenders in the past. The Odisha Government has a very attractive rehabilitation policy and I urge all the Maoists to take advantage of the policy and join the mainstream,” the DGP added.
