Malkangiri/Koraput: Two maoists of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) surrendered before DG Police Abhay in Malkangiri today. The DGP is on a trip to three Maoists-affected districts on Sunday.
The two left-wing extremists who surrendered today are, Raidhar Dharua of Mathili and Rame Podiami alias Sabita of Tamanpalli village in MV 79.
The two were members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee of the banned organistion CPI (Maoist). Raidhar was the Secretary of Daldali Cell while Sabita had participated in many attacks on security forces and ambushes as the commander of Palachalam local organization squad (LOS).
The two Maoists were attracted towards the good surrender and rehabilitation policy of the State Government, besides being disillusioned with the LWE fundamentals, the Police Headquarters stated.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has appealed to active Maoists and militias to leave the path of violence by surrendering and becoming part of the mainstream for peaceful development of these areas. “This appeal has influenced many active Maoist cadres to shun the path of violence and to join the mainstream. In past two years more than 20 active Maoist cadres and hundreds of active militias / Maoist sympathizers have surrendered in Malkangiri District,” the DGP said.
The duo realized that under the current circumstances, there are no grounds for the armed outfit to pursue the revolutionary movement in the light of digital revolution coupled with the welfare oriented and people friendly policies of the Government. They have appealed to other Maoist cadres to give up arms and join the mainstream.
Similarly, during the DCP’s visit to Koraput today, a senior Maoist cadre surrendered before him. The surrendered ultra, Talse Huika was the area commander of Baipariguda committee of the CPI (Maoist) and was active since 2012.
The cadres had become disillusioned with their leadership. There is bias against cadres from Odisha and also the women militia are ill-treated, a senior police official said. They were influenced by the appeals of Chief Minister and the DGP and motivated by the developmental initiatives of Odisha Government.
“Further, when they came to know that Odisha Police never kills anyone, even the ones who had fired on them made them determined to surrender. In Swabhiman Anchal SOG jawans had carried one injured Maoist on their shoulders to the hospital. This Maoist had fired on them,” the official added.
On this occasion, Abhay has once again appealed to all the Maoist cadres to shun violence and join the mainstream.
Sabita was the ACM and Pallachalam LOS Commander and Talse Huika also an ACM in Boipariguda Area Committee. Both carried reward of Rs 4 lakhs each. Raidhar carried a reward of 1 lakh. This surrender is a strong repudiation of Maoist organisation and tactics and endorsement of settlement and rehabilitation policy of Odisha Government.
