Bhubaneswar: Two minor boys were reportedly forced to travel 25 kilometres extra after they couldn’t pay the bus fare amounting to Rs 10. This incident took place in Mayurbhanj’s Betnoti block.
According to reports, Piyush, son of Saroj Puthal from Baisinga village and Rohit, son of Brajamohan Behera from Nadapur village, had boarded the Lakshmi bus from Nadapur chowk, intending to get off at Baisinga bus stand. Since they did not have money, they assured the conductor that their fathers would pay the fare at the Baishinga bus stand.
However, when they reached Baisinga and couldn’t find their fathers, they requested the conductor to let them off. But the conductor, forgetting humanity, took them to the last stop, Kalma, almost 25km away.
The boys were finally rescued by their family members after two hours. The incident sparked outrage, and the conductor was publicly shamed by being made to perform sit-ups in the market. He was made to apologise publicly.
