Jajpur: Two minor girls drowned in a canal at Rahas Guhali village under Alkund police limits in Binjharpur block of Jajpur district on Tuesday.
The deceased minor girls have been identified as Mohini Kumari Mallik and Swarnaprava Mallik.
According to reports, Mohini and Swarnaprava had gone to the canal to take a bath. While bathing the duo slipped and drowned in the canal.
After a frantic search, they were rescued from the canal by the villagers and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Binjharpur. However, they were declared dead by the doctors at the CHC.
Alkund police have seized the bodies and sent them to the district headquarters hospital for conduct of post-mortem.
