Baripada: In a heartbreaking incident, two minor girls drowned in a pond in Purnachandrapur village under Amarda Panchayat in the Rasgovindpur police station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday evening. The tragedy unfolded around 5 PM, during a religious gathering.
According to reports, the incident occurred while a Bhagabati Puja was being observed at the house of Nab Kumar Jena. Amid the celebrations, Jena’s two granddaughters reportedly wandered off to a nearby pond. Moments later, panic gripped the gathering when the girls were found to be missing.
Villagers quickly launched a search and managed to pull the two girls from the water. They were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital at Jaleswar. However, doctors at the hospital declared both children dead on arrival.
