Baripada (Mayurbhanj): A six-year-old girl and her two-year old brother drowned in a pond while taking bath in absence of family members at Jyotipur village under Sadar police limits in Baripada on Saturday.
The heart-rending incident took place years after their father died. The incident sent a shockwave in the area as their mother is devastated by the loss.
The sister-brother duo drowned while going for a bath in the pond near her house on Friday. The family launched a search all around but could not find him.
The villagers suspected that they drowned in the pond after finding their dresses on the bund. They informed the fire brigade personnel who reached and searched. After hour-long search, they failed to trace the siblings. They put the operation on hold in the evening and resumed the search today in the morning.
The fire brigade team finally fished out the bodies from the water body and informed the police.
Police sent the bodies for post-mortem the body for post-mortem.
