Sonepur: In a tragic incident, two minors were killed and another critically injured when they got trapped in an electric wire mesh laid by poachers in the forest near Singhpali village under the Ulunda forest range in Odisha’s Sonepur district on Saturday night.
The deceased have been identified as Jeet Dung Dung and Ramesh of Hatilimunda village, nephews of Naveen Dung Dung. The condition of Naveen, who also stepped on the electric wire, is said to be critical.
According to reports, the minors died on the spot after coming in contact with electricity wires scattered for hunting, while another was rescued and hospitalised in critical condition.
The deceased and injured reportedly went with their uncle to the fields near the forest at night to guard paddy. On their way back, they got trapped by the electric wire mesh.
It is worth mentioning here that despite the best efforts of the state Forest department, poaching of wild animals is increasing day by day in the district. Hunters are using high-powered electrical wires to hunt wild animals.
The Forest department has formed a special squad to prevent the poaching of wild animals. The government has provided the necessary equipment with vehicles. Despite this, hundreds of wild animals have been poached, including tigers and small cats.
