Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, two minor children were rescued on Saturday from GGP Colony in Bhubaneswar after allegedly being subjected to physical abuse by their grandmother and father.
The children reportedly lost consciousness after being beaten. Alert neighbours intervened and handed them over to the Mancheswar Police.
According to reports, the children had been facing regular physical and emotional abuse. During questioning, the minors informed police that their grandmother frequently denied them food and subjected them to repeated acts of violence.
The accused grandmother has been identified as Jyotsana Rani Patra, reportedly justified her actions by claiming she was disciplining the children for constantly playing and neglecting their studies.
One of the children told police, “If we do not study, they beat us. Sometimes they give us food, but many times they do not. Both our father and grandmother physically torture us.”
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Further action will be taken based on medical reports and witness statements.
