Bargarh: In a continued crackdown on criminal activities, Bargarh Town Police arrested two more hardcore criminals on Tuesday, just a day after the district police apprehended 15 accused individuals with firearms and ammunition.
The accused have been identified as Sheikh Wahid Ali (35) of Jayapura village under Kendrapara Town Police Station limits in Kendrapara district, and Tanmay Bag (25) of Brahmanipali village under S. Rampur Police Station in Subarnapur district.
According to the police, a country-made pistol, four live bullets, and three mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off that the duo was planning to commit a crime near the Jeera River bridge, a police team swiftly reached the spot and apprehended them.
Police sources said that both accused have a criminal background and were under surveillance. The arrests come within 24 hours of a major operation on Monday, during which 15 persons were nabbed with five country-made pistols and 20 rounds of ammunition.
The recent arrests underline the district police’s intensified drive against illegal arms and organized crime networks in the region.
