Jharsuguda: Two accused involved in a rape case of a minor girl in the Belpahar police station area in Jharsuguda district were shot by police while allegedly attempting to escape.
As per reports, the accused identified as Sheikh Asif and Abhishek Barik were being forwarded to court when the duo attempted to flee from police custody.
Police claimed that they were forced to use firearms after the accused tried to escape despite warnings. Both accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs in the encounter on Belpahar-Jharsuguda Road and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital In Jharsuguda for treatment.
