Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, two Class VIII students drowned in the Daya river on the outskirts of the capital city, Bhubaneswar, on Friday.
The incident occurred when the students, studying in a private school under the Dhauli police station, went for a bath at Dalakhai Ghat in the river in the afternoon. Unaware of the water’s depth, they slipped into the deep end and were swept away by strong currents.
Rescue efforts are underway, with the fire brigade and local youth participating in the operation. Unfortunately, the body of one student has been recovered, while the search continues for the second missing boy. The family of the missing student has requested additional vehicles to aid in the search.
The school teacher said that the school celebrated Independence Day with various programmes that concluded by 9 pm, and the students had gone home afterwards.
