Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, two young siblings drowned in a pond at Samsarpur village under Bhubaneswar Panchayat in Jajpur district on Sunday.

The victims have been identified as Shankar Guru and his sister, Parvati Guru.

According to reports, Shankar was playing near the pond when he accidentally slipped into the water. Seeing her brother in danger, Parvati jumped in to rescue him, but both were swept into deeper waters and drowned.

Villagers immediately launched a search but were unable to locate the children for several hours. Alarmed family members raised the alarm, prompting a larger, frantic search. A pair of floating slippers was eventually spotted, and a subsequent effort led to the recovery of the children’s bodies.

The siblings were rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Samsarpur village, with residents expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
