Dhenkanal: A tragic road accident claimed lives of two sisters in Hindol of Dhenkanal district on Saturday night.
Two sisters identified as Khushi and Lucy, along with their mother Namita Khatua, were returning home from market on a scooter when a truck ran over them at Sukiabauti chhak near Hindol In Dhenkanal district.
The mother, Namita, is in critical condition and has been admitted to the Hindol Hospital. The accident sparked outrage among locals, who detained the truck and temporarily blocked the road in protest.
Local police intervened and tried to pacify the protesters. Police assured to action again against the speeding vehicles plying in negligence manner on the highway. The local administration paid Rs 25,000 immediate compensation from the district Red-Cross.
This incident marks the twelfth accident on the Puruna Cuttack-Sambalpur road. The accidents mostly occur due to potholes. Local residents are demanding immediate government attention to address problems.
