Nayagarh: A stray leopard attacked two people near Karchuli and Sudangi villages of Nayagarh Gumi Reserve Forest in Odisha injuring them critically. Both the victims have been admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

One of the injured, Pramod, was attacked by the leopard when he was returning home after grazing his cows on Tuesday evening. The leopard, which pounced on him a little distance from his home in Karchuli village, bit him on his right shoulder and ripped his muscles.

When Pramod shouted for help, local villagers rushed to the spot compelling the tiger to flee leaving Pramod grievously injured. The villagers rushed him to Nayagarh DHH where his condition is said to be critical. A little while later, the leopard attacked another person in Sudangi village and left him seriously injured.

Nayagarh DFO Pattash Sadangi later confirmed that a leopard attacked two people in a village near Palva Reserve Forest under Gumi section in Mahipur Ranch. Forest officials reached the spot and assessed the situation. They have found pug marks of the leopard in the area.

While the Forest Department has asked people to remain vigil and avoid going near the forest, local villagers are in a panic.
