Jajpur: Two women were killed after coming under the wheels of a speeding truck on NH 16 here on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Geetarani Padhi and Sasmita Padhi, who were residents of Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar.
They were going to Jajpur from Bhubaneswar with family for offering prayers at the Biraja Temple. Midway at the Chhatia square on NH 16, the family had stopped for having snacks. During this time, the driver did not apply the parking brake and came out of the vehicle.
Geetarani and Sasmita were frightened to see the vehicle moving on the highway and jumped out of the SUV out of fear. A speeding truck from behind ran over the duo as they jumped out of the SUV, killing them on the spot.
Police have retrieved the remains and sent those for autopsy. Bairi police have registered a case in this connection.
