Angul: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed in an elephant attack in Patakmunda village of Chhendipada forest range in Odisha’s Angul district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mandiri Sahu, wife of Tankadhar Sahu.

According to reports, the incident occurred when Mandiri was going to her agricultural field on a two-wheeler. Seeing the elephant chasing her, Mandiri fell from the motorbike and was trampled by the pachyderm.

Mandiri was rushed to a local health centre after the mishap but the doctors there pronounced her ‘brought dead’.

Meanwhile, local villagers have staged a protest demanding adequate compensation to the victim’s family. They are also in a state of panic as such incidents are becoming common in the region.

In another incident, a woman died in an elephant attack while she was cycling to the Brindaban Sahu Hat in Kanihan forest area on Wednesday.
