Jeypore: Two women were critically injured in bear attack near Chhatadiput, under Jeypore block of Koraput district on Saturday. The incident occurred when Nitai Harijan (65) from Chhatadiput was heading to a nearby cashew orchard and was suddenly attacked by three bears.
Local residents raised an alarm, prompting the bears to flee toward Gadapadar village, where they attacked Parbati Paraja (60). Villagers managed to drive the bears away, forcing them to retreat to a nearby forested hill.
Both women, who were severely injured, were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here. Due to their critical condition, they were later shifted to Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College & Hospital at Koraput for advanced treatment.
Forest Department Ranger Sacchidananda Parida visited the hospital to check on the victims’ health and assured that financial assistance for those affected by bear attacks would be provided promptly.
The incident has raised concerns among locals, who have urged authorities to take measures to prevent further wildlife encounters in the area.
